Hexacubes
The following paintings and
sculptures are part of a series of Hexacubes
which began in 1980. Some of the earlier pieces were made of plaster
and
used as molds in plastic vacuum forming machines. The first piece is an
example of a single module formed on a sheet of white plastic. The
modules
would be cut out and glued together to form intricate crystal shapes,
such
as the colorful plastic piece on the mirror pedestal below. In 1983 I
met
R. Buckminster Fuller who pronounced the hexacube sculpture "very
beautiful." In addition to having structural
qualities, the hexacubes have optical illusion effects.

Below
are recent paintings, 12" on a side, 24" high. All are mixed media on a
flat
panel. Some of the people whose ideas influenced the direction I took
in
this series include: Frank Stella, Rudolph Arnheim, Jasper Johns, Bucky
Fuller,
Robert Persig, Douglas Hofstadter, and Vernon Merrifield.
